Jinglesmith Happytonskinlop

(Villagerˈs Voice Staff Bard)

Happytonskinlop grew up on the southern shore of Meade, where he was known to family and friends as Hozae. As a child, Hozaeˈs fascination with the sounds of the ocean led to a love of lyric storytelling.

Hozae was enrolled in Seamenˈs Nautical Academy when Juli Tinker appeared as a guest speaker. Hozae was inspired by Tinker and requested a transfer to her Performing Arts program at the Meade Magic College. There, Hozae excelled in his courses and earned top honors at The prestigious College.

Hozae took the name Jinglesmith while traveling the continent. He felt it more accurately conveyed the message of his lyrics. Jinglesmith returned to Meade to report the tales learned on his journeys. you can catch Jinglesmithˈs performances at the tower Inn.

Omicron Relocates to Guissette

by Galphor Juniorson

Omicron, of Meade's Founding Three, has taken residence with his wife, Captain Nienna Tennile the Commander of the Meade Fleet, in the port town of Guissette. Located due east of Meade, Guissette is located between the commercial and military ports of Meade.

I had the opportunity to sit down with Captain Tennile prior to Guissette's Annual Founders Day Parade ceremonies.

Thank you for taking the time to speak with me Captain Tennile.

You are too kind. I am always available to members of our press.

I would be failing my readers if I didn't ask immediately, will Omicron and yourself be enjoying walks in and around Guissette as in Meade, and if so, how do you feel about being approached by citizens?

Omicron and I have always enjoyed an evening stroll. We are both looking forward to watching the town grow. Also, Omicron has always made a special point of reaching out to citizens for feedback and empowering the citizens to contact him or any of the founders and council members at any time. That could never change. The reason Meade and indeed the entire peninsula has become such a wonderful place to live is the fact that it's leaders all have that same sense of community and togetherness. I know Omicron and the council members try to be present or represented in some way at all the special occasions in the lives of their people.

The Meade populace have always been extremely loyal to them for this very reason. Ask anyone in the existing Sister Cities and they will most likely recollect them meeting, speaking and/or even having a pint of Pail Ale with one, if not all three. That is something that cannot be said anywhere else in the world. They are extremely proud of what their people have accomplished and look forward to meeting the new citizens of Guissette.
Can you give us a little background on Guissette and her relationship with the Meade Fleet?

With pleasure. When the need for a sizable fleet became apparent, Omicron partnered with the Council to plan construction of a sustainable community to support it. It was determined the settlement would be built right at the foot of our shores, perhaps as an extension of the existing ports themselves. The challenge in construction was that shops and services would have limited space available for additional growth. Housing for the resident commercial seamen, naval officers, merchants, and the like would need to be placed inland. Guissette was planned as the main living space for new settlers. It is situated away from the traffic of the ports, about three miles to be exact, but close enough to still smell and feel the sea air at home.
So Guissette isn't just for seamen?

Oh no, not at all. For us Fleet officers, Guissette offers the best of both worlds, land and sea, and it's true that the majority of our Fleet officers have been relocated with their families, but any citizen of the Three Sister Cities interested in working in Guissette may relocate here. Guissette is also very close to the limestone quarries which supply the materials for many construction projects. In fact, many of the quarrymen have reestablished their residency in Guissette. So yes, anyone can live here. Even you Galphor.

I don't know about that Captain, I do continue to work part-time with my father tending the cockatrice at the Galphor Zoo. The trip might be difficult for me. But I will keep Guissette in mind for my father's retirement.

The day Galphor retires is the day my husband stops being an elf.
(After a few minutes of laughter, the interview continues)

Can you paint a picture of Guissette for our readers who might not have seen it yet?

Of course. One thing you will notice is the abundance of forest land and old growth trees in and around Guissette. Omicron ensured that as much of the original forest remained untouched. He grew up in the woodlands far to the north so the majority of the homes are built in a spiraling fashion around the preexisting trees. They all possess indoor plumbing and clean running water for cooking, bathing, etc. Smaller homes are built in the traditional mushroom cottage style with most having gardens in front and little herb gardens in the back. The cost for this was the limitation on farming. Meade provides much of the vegetable food stuff in trade for fish and marine delicacies.

Once at the main gates, you will notice the ornately decorated walls that surround Guissette. The main entrance way was designed by my husband and it reflects his Elven roots. Main Road leads to Central Fountain Park. Ceremonies, festivals, and gatherings occur at this beautiful fountain. You can see, the center sculpture is of Omicron, Willow and Kimmy-Ko standing before Travelers Tower. It's a little reminder of the mother city. Municipal buildings are located around the park circle. To the left is the Town Hall. To the right is the Order Officials' HQ and the Fire Brigade. Behind the inner circle of buildings, you will find the Correspondence Building. Downtown Guissette features a world class hospital with graduates from Meade College of Herbology and Medicine.

The downtown area is laid out in circular blocks, much the same as it is in Meade. However, all of the streets are wider to allow for multi lane traffic of large wagons. After all, most of the downtown traffic is commercial merchants, stone masons and naval activity. All services available in Meade are available in Guissette with the notable exception of a University.

The Minez Restaurant & Tavern is located to the right on the main strip. Be sure to try the boar, it is Omicron's favorite; seasoned and roasted using an dwarven recipe acquired during his stay in the mountains. Simply delicious! As with all eateries on the peninsula, they offer Pail Ale to all patrons, but you'll want to pair this with dwarven stout for a truly authentic meal.

Visitors entering from outside the Canaled Peninsula via the Eastern Bay will dock into the commercial port. These visitors will be required to register with the Barrister's Office located near the Main Entrance of Tradesman Port in order to procure a visitor's pass. From there, you can explore Guissette or board any of the fine coaches destined within the peninsula.

Where is the water gathered? More importantly, where does it come from?

Water is sourced from Meade and is distributed via two main aqueducts that splinter out from Meade's farmland and deposit into reservoirs located throughout Guissette. From there, it is distributed throughout some very ingenious piping techniques. The dwarven designed waterwheels help maintain pressure.

Well, thank you for taking the time to speak with me, maybe next time I will have the pleasure of speaking to the both of you.

I always enjoy seeing you. Perhaps next time, my husband will find time for a break. As you can see, the success of the celebration is of great importance to him. He hasn't been able to tear himself away from it this morning. I hope you enjoy the festivities. As my husband would say, 'Mela Meade ve Meade mela dos' which loosely translates to 'Love Meade like Meade loves you'.

Master shoemaker opens shop in Meade

Dresdenˈs Famous Shoes has been known throughout the Canalled Peninsula for superior craftsmanship, style, comfort and durability. Dresdenˈs newest shop is open for business right here in Meade.

Dresden has recreated the way shoes are made. He will be training a select group of cobblers to work as a team in creating high quality footwear for his customers in Meade. Under his new system, patrons are offered same day service and can watch the process of their shoes being made from start to finish.

The secret of Dresdenˈs Famous Shoes is its founder and master shoemaker, Percival Dresden, and his vast array of shoe lasts. A shoe last is the form the shoemaker uses to wrap and shape the upper of the shoe. The shoe last must match the measurements of the customerˈs foot precisely in order to ensure the best possible fit. Each shoe made by Dresden is custom fit to the wearer.
